Going Out
Ackworth
Ackworth "nightlife" tends to revolve around the local hostelries, with
choices including the popular Boot and Shoe on Wakefield Road, which features
live rock music on Friday, Saturday and Sunday teatime, Cabaret on Tuesday
Nights, a monthly "Licensed to Chill" with top musicians on the first
Wednesday, and Quiz Nights every Monday and Thursday. No food, but does feature
big screen TV for the sports fans. Also on Wakefield Road is The Angel, a nicely
refurbished pub which does good food and Ackworth Moortop Working Mens Club. The
Beverley Arms is a large franchised pub on the roundabout and on Bell Lane is
the Masons Arms. Going towards Pontefract on the main road you come across The
homely Brown Cow and in Low Ackworth on Long Lane The Rustic Arms is a
rural venue with large gardens and a fishing lake.
Further Afield...
For a special meal our favourite is The King's Arms at Heath near
Wakefield. This olde worlde country pub still has gas lights, open fires, lots
of little nooks and crannies, well kept beer, lovely gardens and a great
restaurant. The food is superb. Though quite pricey in the restaurant, the
surroundings and atmosphere are worth it and they also do cheaper
bar meals.Another good restaurant combined with live music is The New Inn at
Walton, a lovely old building with a beer garden and smoking shelters, friendly
atmosphere and good music in Tommy's Bar on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The
restaurant provides wholesome home cooked food which we can personally
recommend!
Pontefract boasts a pub just about every 10 yards in the town centre, but The
Spread Eagle at Darrington provides a more country feel and does nice food.
